"Well-behaved women seldom make history." — Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
Lozen was an Apache warrior, shaman, and humanitarian who fought alongside her people against Mexican and American forces for over 30 years. Renowned for her extraordinary bravery and military prowess, she was known for her exceptional skill on horseback and with weapons — and was said to possess supernatural powers that aided in locating the enemy.
More than a fighter, Lozen was a protector — guiding women, children, and elders to safety during some of the most dangerous passages in Apache history. Her fearless dedication to justice and her people continues to inspire to this day.
Boudicca was a British queen who led one of the most formidable revolts against Roman rule in history. When her husband, King Prasutagus of the Iceni, died and the Romans seized his kingdom — flogging Boudicca and mistreating her daughters — she rose in fierce rebellion across East Anglia.
Her forces struck terror into the Roman occupation, routing the 9th Legion and devastating Roman settlements across Britain. Though ultimately defeated, Boudicca's defiance remains a timeless symbol of resistance, dignity, and the refusal to accept injustice without a fight.
In our dedicated Women's History Room, you can learn about each of these remarkable figures up close — and taste the wine paired with their story. Available during all tours and tastings.
